Biodiversity Monitoring in Rwanda

Camera traps

Installed in agreement with Volcanoes National Park, these monitor wildlife entering the property and determine how and when they make use of the additional wildlife refuge area. The data is used to develop our biodiversity management plan for Rwanda Project – Volcanoes National Park. The traps show regular sightings of buffalo, bushbuck, jackal, elephants as well as occasional gorilla groups.

Bird Identification

The region is home to more than 300 bird species. The team is recording the species on the property and developing a comprehensive checklist for guests.

Alien invasive plant species control

Removing and controlling the spread of exotic, invasive alien tree species to reduce competition with local species while replanting indigenous trees and shrubs – as part of the expansion of our reforestation efforts.
